Hi my name is Jaylene and I have been working in the therapy field for over 6 years. My experience started when I attended Utah State University where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I began work in a trauma-sensitive out-patient setting with children and adolescents. I continued my experience by working as a school counselor intern at two elementary schools. After receiving my degree, I moved to Washington and began my Master of Social Work program at Eastern Washington University. While in school, I had a practicum in a clinical, out-patient counseling agency where I completed 20 hours/week. I completed my MSW and have been working in a clinical setting since. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families. Along with those receiving counseling as per contracts with DDA, DCYFS, Spokane County Jail, Aging and Long-term Care, and more. I have experience with clients of all ages and with various physical and/or intellectual abilities. I’ve worked with clients from a diverse background of sexual orientation, biological sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, cultural, religious, and spiritual beliefs. I have experience working with those with varying diagnoses of depression, anxiety, ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder (type 1 and 2), Schizoaffective Disorder, and more.
I believe that therapy should be client-centered, catered to the individual receiving treatment. There are several evidence-based practices we use in treatment, such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and more. While the components of these modalities will be utilized, the delivery of these practices will be specialized to the client in a way that is beneficial to them. I often will ask clients during intake sessions what type of therapy approaches do they like, for instance, do you like straightforward advice, having someone to listen to you, brainstorming and working through concerns, completing worksheets, etc. My job is to listen to clients’ individual needs and transform my practice to align with their desired therapeutic experience.
The therapeutic journey may seem daunting, but I promise that I will do my best to make it a valuable experience that is focused on you. That being said, therapy doesn’t always have to feel heavy. We will celebrate your wins just as much as we process losses, we’ll feel joy in your accomplishments just as much as we will navigate challenges. I am looking forward to meeting you, thank you!
