My name is Katherine Sibrian and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate. As a clinician, I understand the importance of family, tradition and community, while acknowledging the complexities that come with it. Having experienced a diverse upbringing, I value each individual’s unique experience and their desire to move to a place of healing and self-growth. Growing up in Los Angeles, California I was part of a community that was marginalized and mental health services were non-existent yet needed. With this frame of mind, I chose to pursue my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University – New England, adding to my Bachelor’s in Sociology focused on Law and Society, from California State University, Los Angeles, in order to better serve underrepresented communities.
I believe that each client is the expert of their own life and my goal is to provide a space for client’s to be vulnerable; with support and guidance. Therapy is a valuable resource and while there is no blanketed approach, I tailor my approach to my clients’ needs and goals. I see individuals and couples struggling with a variety of concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, relationship distress, and life transitions. I am passionate about working with minority groups who may be facing difficult adjustments, culture shock, cultural oppression, and other sources of frustration and confusion. I consider it a great opportunity and joy to be able to combine my passion and experience advocating for social justice with my love of therapy.
My aim is to help each of my clients leave each session a little better, in some way, than when they came in, even if it may not feel like it at the time. I work in an empathetic, straight forward, realistic, and inclusive way. I value honest and open feedback and dialogue with my clients to create a space of growth for the individuals, couples, and families I work with. I offer my clients a strong container, thick skin, and commitment, to foster an environment that allows my clients to show up fully and authentically. I am here to support, encourage, and challenge my clients in the therapeutic process to view their worlds with greater compassion, clarity, courage, and autonomy.
